Cornets
What are they?
Cornets are Brass instruments similar to Trumpets.
They are distinguished by having a more "Conical bore" as well as a more compact shape and mellower tone quality.
There are two different types of Cornet:
B♭
(Most common and the majority of the cornet section use)
E♭
(Also known as Soprano - Smaller and more 'niche' cornet. There is generally only One soprano cornet in a band)

Training Band
Great Horwood Training Band was formed over 40 years ago to develop and encourage leaners of all ages from their first note through to joining the Senior Band.
This format has served the band well over the years with a number of the current senior members having started their association with the band as a junior member, something that we still hope to achieve with our trainees today.
The Training Band Master, Emma Mainwaring, has herself been associated with the band for nearly 40 years and is currently the band's Principal Cornet providing a wealth of experience for any potential brass player.
Our Training Band rehearses between 6.30pm and 7.00pm on
Wednesday evenings in Great Horwood Village Hall and is open to all ages and experience making it a great way to learn to play a brass instrument or return to playing after a break.
